PS5 LAN Cable Keeps Disconnecting? Here’s What To Do

The PlayStation 5 (PS5) is one of the most popular gaming consoles on the market today. It is known for its powerful hardware, stunning graphics, and vast library of games.

However, like any electronic device, the PS5 can encounter issues, including LAN cable issues.

We receive many reports here at Console Therapy that the PS5 LAN Cable Keeps Disconnecting. These LAN cable issues with the PS5 are relatively common, and they can be caused by a variety of factors.

We have created this guide to discuss the different types of LAN cable issues that you might encounter with the PS5 and how to fix them.

Why Does The LAN Cable Keep Getting Disconnected With PS5?

This first common issue with LAN cables on the PS5 is simply the cable keeps randomly disconnecting.

This can be caused by a variety of factors, including a loose connection, a faulty LAN cable, or issues with your router or modem.

    Bad Cable

To fix this issue, although it sounds obvious, you should first check the connection with the LAN cable on the rear of the PS5.

Make sure that the cable is plugged in all the way and that the connection is secure and not loose.

If the connection is secure, try using a different LAN cable – although robust, just like any other cable, a LAN cable is prone to bending, and failing.

We recommend a high quality CAT 5 or CAT 6 RJ45 LAN cable with solid connector housing – see a few of our recommended options here.

    Network Settings

If your cable is good, you should check your network settings to make sure that your PS5 is set to use a wired connection.

On your PS5, open up Setting, then select Network and check Connection Status – this should say “Wired Connection”.

    Router Settings

If the issue persists, you should check your router and modem to make sure that they are functioning properly.

First, shut down your PS5 (do not put in rest mode), then go to your home router and switch it off.

Wait 2 minutes, then switch your router back on again.

Now wait at least 5 minutes to give your route a chance to completely boot up and connect to your internet service provider (ISP)

Now turn the PS5 back on and see if your connection is more stable.

More reasons why the PS5 LAN Cable is Not Working

If you PS5 Keeps Disconnecting From LAN it might not be a physical issue with the cable or router.

Here are some other common issues which might be causing a problem.

    Slow LAN Connection

If you are experiencing slow LAN connection speeds with your PS5, there are several things you can do to try and fix the issue.

As mentioned above, first, make sure that your PS5 is set to use a wired connection by going to Settings > Network > Connection Status.

You can also try optimizing your network settings to improve your LAN connection speed.

One way to do this is to enable Quality of Service (QoS) on your router.

QoS allows you to prioritize certain types of traffic on your network, such as gaming traffic, over other types of traffic.

This can help to improve your LAN connection speed.

If you are still experiencing slow LAN connection speeds, you may want to consider upgrading your router or modem.

Older routers and modems may not be able to handle the high speeds required for online gaming, which can lead to slow LAN connection speeds.

    LAN Cable Port Issues

Another common issue with LAN cables on the PS5 is when the LAN cable port on the console is not functioning properly.

This can be caused by physical damage to the port or issues with the PS5 hardware.

Unplug the network cable and power cable from your PS5, and using a touch, have a close look into the LAN port on the back of your PS5.

Do the pins look straight and clean?  If not, you might need your LAN port replacing, you should contact Sony support for assistance.

Sony support will be able to guide you through the troubleshooting process and help you resolve the issue.

If the LAN cable port on your PS5 is physically damaged, you may need to send your console in for repairs or replacement – do not forget to get in touch with our team here at Console Therapy for your PS5 LAN Port repair.

    Update your firmware

Sometimes, firmware issues can cause the LAN cable to disconnect.

Make sure that your PS5 is running the latest firmware version.

You can check for firmware updates by going to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings > Network > Connection Status.

    And finally..

LAN cable issues with the PS5 can be frustrating, but they can often be resolved with a few simple steps.

First, check the connection between the LAN cable and the PS5 to make sure it is secure.

Make sure you are using a good quality LAN cable – a guide on the best PS5 LAN cables can be found here.

If the connection is secure, try using a different LAN cable to see if that resolves the issue.

You should also check your router and modem to make sure they are functioning properly and try resetting them.

If you are still experiencing issues, contact Sony support or your ISP for assistance.

They can guide you through the troubleshooting process and help you resolve the issue.

With a little patience and persistence, you can get your PS5 back up and running smoothly with a stable LAN connection.
